The Main Gate of Chandraprabha Wildlife Sanctuary

Chandraprabha Wildlife Sanctuary was established as the ‘protected area’ situated in the Chandauli district of the Uttar Pradesh, India in 1957. Spread over 9600 hectares, its core area covers 2,686 ha. The landscape of Chandraprabha, is blessed with nature. It is a dense forest with scenic waterfalls and diverse flora and fauna. The wildlife includes  sambhar, nilgai, black bucks, chital, nilgai, wild boar, porcupine, python and ghariyal.

This wildlife sanctuary witnessed a successful reintroduction of three lions in 1958. By 1969, the number increased to 11, but the population did not rise further and all the lions disappeared in due course of time. The failure was attributed to the lack of scientific method and systematic monitoring. Lack of social awareness, conflict with the nearby villagers and no effective remedy to resolve such conflicts significantly contributed to the disappearance of the lions.
In 2002, the National Wildlife Action Plan was adopted that emphasizes the role of public participation in wildlife conservation and hence, we were curios as well as excited to be in the wild and observe the nature and how the effective the official efforts are being taken in raising public awareness.

Chandauli District is a district of Uttar Pradesh state of India, and Chandauli town is the district headquarters. Chandauli district is a part of Varanasi Division.Chandauli became a separate district for the first time on May 20, 1997. However, after coming into power, Mayawati dissolved it on January, 2004 and ensured its merger again in Varanasi. But, the decision was challenged in the high court after which its recreation was ensured on June 17, 2004.
Mughalsarai, a city in the district has the busiest rail station in the North East of India. It has great natural beauty in the form of Chandraprabha Sanctuary and many waterfalls which include Devdari and Rajdari. The District contributes to Indian GDP by providing the various cereals from the district including paddy and wheat. Popularly known as the "Dhaan Ka Katora of Uttar Pradesh" because of extreme fertile lands of the Gangetic Plain. Chanduali district made big contributions at the time of freedom movements.

How to reach:-
How to Reach or go there: After so much research i found this. hope it will help you. First is cheapest way in which i visited.

1] Take tuk tuk (rikshaw) to Varanasi railway station.
2] From there i went to Mughalsarai by bus.
3] From Mughalsarai took a shared jeep to Chakia.
4] From chakia in some distance you'll get another jeep by asking for Raj Dari Jharna [Raj Dari waterfall ] There people failed to recognize the place called "chandra prabha wildlife" :)
5] Jeep will reach near gate, from there i walked 3 km! Yes...there is no other option even if u have money. So total 6 km :) Total 4 hours to reach there.
Buses are rare to see, after 5pm jeep will not be there...Jeep is over crowded and i was hanging outside to reach chakia after my visit to the falls.

If i want to go there again, I will never go in the way i went..Even i suggest you to hire a private cab and go there. which will take 2 hours.

This waterfall is worth a visit. I almost stopped looking at jeep crowd. However, i forced myself as i was already traveled around 55km to visit that place. As i reached that place i said wow! it looked like a mini Niagara falls.

Best Time to Visite: July to October

"KANTIT" Where Sanctity of Ajmer Shareef is Maintained : A Unique Example Of National Integration Annual segregation (Urs) of Kantit Shareef has been celebrated here at the Mazaar (tomb) of Khwaja Ismile Chistee, the nephew of Khwaja Moinuddin Chistee of Ajmer. Situated about 6 km. from historical city Mirzapur and just 2 furlong from Vindhyachal Dhaam in Kantit village of Mirzapur district.

The Dargaah of Kantit Shareef attracts more than 5 lakh pilgrims from different parts of the country. Surprisingly, enough number of Hindu pilgrims is also remarkable. It is common belief that those, who cannot pay regards to Ajmer Shareef due to long distance, gather here and get the same religious satisfaction as if they are visiting the Mazaar of Khwaja Moinuddin Sahib of Ajmer. Once the wish of devotees is fulfilled, they offer 'chaader' (bedsheet like covering) on the mazaar. They also distribute 'halwa', 'zarda', and 'sheernee' among poor and disables. This place is now furring very important and every year the number of devotees is increasing. The most striking feature of this centre of Hindu Muslim unity is that the first chaader (sheet) is bestowed at the dargaah by not a Muslim but by a Hindu, who belongs to Kasera family of Mirzapur city. Only then the Urs of Dargaah takes the final inauguration of annual segregation.

This tradition of beginning of urs by a Hindu has been going since times past from the time of Jawahar Kasera, the ancestor of present line of Kasera. The popularity of this is more because it is situated at a very convenient place, which is also very popular as the famous temple of Vindhyavasini is not far away from the sacred mazaar of Khwaja Ismile Chistee. Vindhyachal is situated on the main railway line connecting Calcutta and Delhi. The urs continues for 4 to 7 days as per decides by Urs Committee. Historical investigations tell that Khwaja Sahib became popular among masses when he succeeded to control arbitrary natured kings Daanav Rai and Dhama Rai, who belonged to Gaharwar Rajpoot sect of Hindu religion. They were established as very strong but cruel kings. Some of their polices were fatal for public good. At this juncture Khwaja Sahib miraculously impressed the two kings so much that their behaviour changed and they started the policy of public good. Khwaja Ismile Chistee Sahib selected the village of Kantit for his lodging

because it had beautiful natural scenery at that time. The sacred river Ganga flows just near the dargaah. The surrounding Vindhya Mountain increases the scenic beauty of the place. During his lifetime, Khwaja Sahib was well known for his chamatkaars. After his death, he is still known by his name. A very good atmosphere is witnessed as Hindus and Muslims bow their heads together at the mazaar. To the south of this dargaah, the Vindhya Mountain runs from east to west. Ganga River is situated to the north side. To the east flow river Punyajala and to the west, the sacred temple of Vindhyachal is situated. It is a firm belief that the devotees get blessed with the fulfilment of their muraads (wish) if they visit this sacred place.  Almost the whole years devotees visit this mazaar though at the time of urs the number increases many folds. Mrs. Sonia Ghandhi once again visited this place in the year 2004 for rejoin of power into the hands of Congress. The district administration maintains complete vigil on this dargaah. But during the time of urs mela, six to seven days, security is marvellous. Besides security, other facilities like drinking water, lighting arrangements, temporary hospital, and primary health centres, etc. are made for the convenience of devotees.
